Chat & Activities Guide
Who does this apply to
Everyone entering any WOL chat or activity space—admins, members, and guests, whether in public or private rooms. By using our spaces, you agree to follow these rules.
Core values
- Respect, truth, and usefulness. Debate ideas, not people.
- Protect privacy and safety. Keep discussions constructive and inclusive.
- Remember our purpose: to support the 林 (Lim) community and its allies.
Your responsibility when posting or forwarding
- Forwarding equals posting. You are responsible for anything you post or forward.
- Ensure content is safe, lawful, respectful, and suitable for the community.
- Share only what you have the right to share. Do not post others’ private information without consent.
- If unsure, don’t post—ask a moderator first.
Conduct: what to do
- Be civil, respectful, and fact-based. Ask clarifying questions where needed.
- Stay on topic and use the correct room or thread.
- Use clear, inclusive language. Add content notes for sensitive topics.
- Report issues through the proper channel; avoid public escalation.
- When requesting help, suggestions, or collaboration, make your request clear. Do not post vague or incomplete requests—it is disrespectful and may cause others to misunderstand your intentions.
Conduct: what not to do
- No harassment, hate speech, threats, or bullying.
- No doxxing or sharing personal data without consent.
- No spam, scams, phishing, impersonation, or malicious links.
- No disruptive flooding, derailment, or off-topic promotion.
- Do not repeatedly post the same content.
- Do not share items copied directly from news channels or links filled with ad banners. If you want to post news, add your own thoughts or questions—do not post content that leaves others guessing what you mean.
- Avoid political arguments. Government policy discussions relevant to business, self-improvement, well-being, or children’s futures are welcome. Political content such as race issues, racism, insulting leaders or groups, or attempts to influence others must be avoided.
Contacts and promotion
- Prioritise 林 businesses and community needs when sharing or recommending contacts.
- Promotion is only allowed in clearly marked promo channels/rooms. Do not promote elsewhere unless explicitly asked.
- Promotions must be relevant, honest, respectful, and reasonable in frequency. Forwarding a promo still makes you responsible for it.
- Official advertising, sponsorships, and event monetisation help fund operations, events, and programmes.
Suggestions, debates, and disagreements
- Suggestions and debate are welcome. Arguments may happen—keep them fact-based, de-escalate where possible, and aim for resolution.
- We are a diverse community. Listen actively and respond thoughtfully.
Equal treatment and second chances
- Rules apply equally to everyone—senior or junior, admin or member.
- Everyone gets fair chances to improve, but do not push boundaries deliberately.
Working with admins and moderators
- Follow the moderator's instructions. If asked to edit or remove content, cooperate promptly.
- Repeated issues or non-cooperation may lead to removal, suspension, or a ban. Severe cases may be referred to the authorities
Suspension and blocking
- If you are suspended and blocked, it means exactly that—you are suspended and blocked.
- There is no need to escalate or heat up the situation. You may contact an admin or operator to explain what happened and share your perspective for review.
- Sometimes suspension or blocking is used as a cooling-off period, to give everyone space to reflect and improve.
- In many cases, there will be an opportunity to rejoin the community once things are settled. WOL is a space for growth and learning together.
Rights to communicate with moderators
- Every member has the right to communicate and discuss with an operator or moderator if they find anything wrongful or see room for improvement.
- WOL welcomes suggestions, reporting, and feedback.
- These rights must not be misused as a weapon against individuals, groups, or the community itself. Do not use reporting or feedback to target others unfairly or to disrupt the group.
Complaints and reports
- If you need to report someone: provide specifics (message link, time, brief description) via the reporting tool or designated contact.
- If you are reported: you may be asked for context. Respond respectfully and avoid public disputes while the review is ongoing.
Enforcement
Depending on severity and history, actions may include:
- Reminder
- Content edit or removal
- Temporary mute
- Time-limited suspension
- Permanent ban
Serious safety or legal risks may be escalated to the authorities.
Privacy, security, and compliance
- Compliance: PDPA-first; aligned with GDPR/CCPA.
- Encryption: data is protected in transit and at rest.
- Identity: accounts are verified via email; additional checks may apply for some features.
